Of every dollar raised by Komen Lowcountry, 75 cents stays here to support local community health grants and mission programs. The remaining 25 cents goes to Susan G. Komen’s global research grants programs to find the cures; it is not used for the organization’s salaries and overhead.
In Our Local Communities
Komen Lowcountry is working to reduce the disparities and improve the lives of those facing breast cancer in our local communities. Our Community Grants program is designed to make systemic, lasting change in our community. Through events like the Komen Lowcountry Race for the Cure®, Komen Lowcountry has invested $6.8 million in community breast health programs in 17 Counties and has helped contribute to the more than $800 million invested globally in research.
Around the World
Komen Lowcountry has invested more than $2.5 million in Susan G. Komen’s research programs. Susan G. Komen is the world’s largest breast cancer organization, funding more breast cancer research than any other nonprofit while providing real-time help to those facing the disease. Thanks to the generosity of our donors and supporters, we’re funding lifesaving research in all areas of breast cancer, from basic biology to prevention to treatment and to survivorship. And with continued support, this scientific research will address some of the most pressing issues in breast cancer today:
- Identifying and improving methods of early detection
- Ensuring more accurate diagnoses
- Developing new approaches to prevention
- Enabling personalized treatments based on breast cancer subtypes and the genetic make-up of a tumor
Susan G. Komen also funds programs that provide help to those facing breast cancer. Some of the programs funded by Komen include:
